Our Philanthropy

One of the most important aspects of being a member of Alpha Phi is having the opportunity to give back to the community. As a chapter, we place a strong emphasis on philanthropy & service. Alpha Phi believes in women helping women. Here at Alpha Phi, we take pride in showing our love for our philanthropy. Our philanthropy has four pillars, the Alpha Phi Foundation, Scholarship, Leadership, and Sisterhood. All year long we look forward to and plan out our philanthropy week events.

Whether it is hosting our own philanthropy events such as our famous Chili-Phi'st and King of Hearts or volunteering with our local American Red Cross, we always strive our hardest to give back to the community, as well as support a variety of important causes.

The Upsilon Chapter has a strong passion for donating time to our local community. We have relationships with multiple local organizations and dedicate our time and service to them throughout the year. Our local philanthropy is the Topeka, KS branch of the American Heart Association.

Our chapter completed a total of nearly 3,500 hours of community service during the 2018-2019 school year.

A new tradition in honor of  Francis E. Willard Day of Service that every Alpha Phi chapter participates in is our Princess for a Day. We held an event with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Topeka where we brought in young women to hang out with us for a day. This event was aimed at giving the girls who are on the waiting list for a big sister a chance to have an entire sorority as big sisters for a day. The theme was Princess for a Day and the girls were able to get manicures, get their make-up done, decorate picture frames and decorate and enjoy cupcakes. Our sisters here at Alpha Phi really enjoyed spending time with these amazing girls and hope they had just as much fun as we did!

Princess for a Day

This is our week-long philanthropy campus event, that pushes our women to spread awareness about Women's Heart Health. This week happens once a year in February. The first event of the week kicks off with awareness night at our home for some yummy Mac N' Phis. Then we turn up the heat with our men's beauty pageant, called King of Hearts. This is held on our campus in our ballroom. Our third event ranges from a Washburn community fitness event, this last year we did a dodgeball tournament encouraging everyone to move their phit! Our most famous event is our Chili Phi'st it is held every Thursday night of our cardiac care week. It has over thirty-five different types of chili that are donated.
